Timberjay blasts corporate jive

Marshall Helmberger and the woefully underappreciated Timberjay newspaper is sticking up for the good guys in the battle for high speed rural internet access. Helmberger provides a much-needed balance for the corporate boosterism of the Iron Range’s largest newspaper, the Mesabi Daily News.

True high speed internet available to all at a low price remains our best option for offering genuine economic diversification on the Iron Range.

Talk about a company needs to be smacked up side the head – Qwest is not working in our best interests. These communities would be well served to move forward with these high speed plans that slap Qwest around a little. I just wish I lived in one of them so I could poke my representatives with a sharp stick.

I’ve never understood why mainstream media gives space to professional liars like this guy from Qwest. These public relations and government affairs lobbyists have no interest at all in informing people. They will say whatever they think they can get away with if it serves their purpose.

World class internet service is a necessity. Without it, northern Minnesota will be unable to attract young people or any business with customers outside the region. And the businesses that are here will become increasingly uncompetitive.

I am not up to speed on the high-speed internet issue on the Range, but I can tell you that the Mesabi Daily News drives me (and many of my friends) absolutely crazy. We never have subscribed, we occasionally picked it up on Sunday and we have now resorted to never purchasing it. It contains (as far as I am concerned) rotten journalism and it has an obvious agenda. For us, it is a waste of time to read.
