Gettin’ J-schooled

This post is for all the journalists, ex-journalists or would-be journalists out there, and also the bloggers who are journalists too, even if they are drunk most of the time. (The golden age of journalism was lubricated with copious amounts of scotch). And also people who read. There, that covers everyone.

This is an interesting take on the woes of newspaper journalism penned by Jeff Jarvis at the BuzzMachine. Jarvis, a college instructor with a deep journalism background, blames many of the problems on journalists being unwilling to change with the internet and believing that their unspoken protection from business realities would last forever. It’s worth a read as it is not just media-bashing.

And, from Gawker, here is a guide to a journalism career that is paradoxically both depressing and hilarious.

Why is it so hard to be an information agent in the information age? I suppose a similar question would be why is it so hard to be a cow on the island full of starving people.
