Name that delegation: The Super Fun Poll

Last week I posed a challenge to readers to come up with a clever nickname for the Iron Range legislative delegation, a moniker that would bring some levity to what appears to be a pretty grim session. As students of Minnesota politics know, the Iron Range of Northern Minnesota reliably elects Democrats but seldom elects “typical” Democrats. Based on comments to my last post (and on some creative concepts of my own) I’ve come up with a host of possible names for the IR delegation. If we get a clear winner on the poll, located on the left hand side of this blog, I plan to inject the use of that nickname into my coverage of the legislative session. Here are the nominees:

  • Deer Shack Democrats
  • Delegation against Metropolitan Opulence
  • Jack Pine Savage Delegation
  • Ranger Power
  • The Shovelers
  • D-Miner
  • Big Whiskey
  • Just keep it “Range Delegation”

I was surprised that more than one commenter said we should just keep “Range Delegation,” but the comment of “Jackpine” made it clearer to me:

Frankly, I like “Range Delegation” because it implies they are emissaries to a foreign land. Very apt, I think.

Anyone who’s ever driven though the downtown of a Range city to the Capitol in St. Paul knows what Jackpine is talking about. Vote now! I’ll wrap up the balloting on Wednesday, Jan. 21.

  1. The “Range Delegation” name does not in any way denote it as the DFL and not IR.

    Here is a nice solution:

    “D-Ranged Delegation”

  2. Goodranger says

    I wish I would’ve gotten in sooner.
“GoodRangers” could be a nice name. (possibly same implications of GoodFellas, from movie by the same name.)

  3. GoodRangers could be the name for the IRs.
    GoodFellas, fka Mugga’s!

  4. GoodRangers is good. I can’t amend the poll, but I’ll keep it in mind for the right time. Thanks!

  5. The Ghost of Jan Smaby says

Your poll should be conducted by instant runoff voting.

  6. D-Ranged Delegation

    Nice. In a landslide!
