Ice Living in Northern Minnesota

Life in northern Minnesota is great. Our cost of living is low and our communities are increasingly becoming modernized.

The only problem is that there’s a bag in my car right now containing a snowsuit and giant boots in the event today’s ice storm drives my Ford Focus into the ditch where I would presumably spend the night feeding on stray snack crumbs found beneath my seats until being located by the State Patrol.

Except for that part, utopia.

  1. Here I am, in another state, getting about 4 ice storm warnings/day through the email weather reports, for the last 3 days. My DH, in Hibbing, took extra clothes to work in case he had to sleep in the office. He just called and said he didn’t see a drop, flake, or hear a tinkle of ice. So he’s wondering if it missed us again or if he’ll get off of work today. He said that at least one school sent kids home early, even though there was no precipitation. Maybe we have another drought in the making. But where I am, it is raining hard, even though it is still supposed to be winter here.

  2. Yeah, so far the “ice storm” is a total bust. It was still above freezing when I checked a couple hours ago well after sundown. It’s very wet, but until and unless it freezes it’s technically just rain. And I haven’t seen any of the mythical snowflakes, either. Tomorrow will tell.

My boots were still a little wet from playing outside with my kid on Sunday, and they dried off by being near my car heater … so I guess that’s good.
