Don’t be demagogin’

Wanna see an editorial about the ongoing debate over booster seats in Minnesota that contains this phrase:

Come on, this issue is open for debate. Don’t demagogue it.

AND this phrase?

While we do not doubt the sincerity of the sponsors of the bill to provide another layer of safety for children, we find it to be another example of Government Big Brother watching and also Government Mommy trying to protect everyone from any possible danger.

So says Daddy. Daddy’s been really pissed off since Obama won. Only in today’s Mesabi Daily News.

Comments

  1. What’s wrong with “demagogue it”? It’s a perfectly crumulent phrase!

  2. This comment has been removed by the author.

  3. If Daddy bothered to look in the rear-view at his five year-old with the shoulder strap running across the kid’s neck, the bill would have already passed.

Maybe if they set up a booster seat factory in Virginia?

  4. I’m afraid it would probably take a nonunion clean coal booster seat factory in Hoyt Lakes to reverse this one. And only if the booster seats were made to deliberately detach from the vehicle in a crash.

In all seriousness, I share skepticism about any new “primary offense” laws. I think you should only be pulled over if you do something wrong or if your vehicle is a visibly a danger to others. Buuuut … booster seats would save lives. Can’t we all just get along on that?

  5. It’s interesting also that Daddy has enumerated eight – eight! – rules for would-be commenters to follow.

I tried to correct him once (on a doctored Obama “quote”), but for some reason he didn’t like my comment. Daddy can be so hard to please.
