Why you love us, a series

From today’s Mesabi Daily News:

Today we begin a new regular feature — “Power of the Press” — which will tell, through the words of our readers, the impact that Mesabi Daily News stories have had on their daily lives and the lives of others. It will run on various days of the week.

You’ve got to read the whole thing for the full effect.

  1. Um…

    Wow.

This is an example of why I don’t pay for newspapers up here.

  2. No kidding Julie.

If they really want to get readership up, they would remove their stupid password protection crap from the site, and put little facebook, delicious, etc apps on all their stories so those of us who care to could easily share their stories with others, who presumably would go to their site, drive the numbers up, and make their online paper more attractive to advertisers. This is where I feel the newspaper publishing business is not quite catching on, and it makes me crazy!

You’d better bet I make frequent links to publishers who make it easy to do so, and my friends do to. When I come across such a link in a blog, I use it. Others must surely do the same. It would only benefit the paper to have those stories promulgated widely across the net if it brings traffic back to their site.
