Dayton officially announces Sertich pick at IRR

And it’s official. More on the way.

Dayton, Sertich committed to economic development in Northern Minnesota

St. Paul— Governor Mark Dayton today announced the appointment of Representative Tony Sertich as Commissioner of the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB). Sertich, who hails from Chisholm, will lead the Board in its important mission to diversify the economy of the Iron Range. Representative Sertich was the youngest Majority Leader in Minnesota’s history.  A fourth generation Iron Ranger, Sertich is a member of both the Hibbing and Chisholm Chambers of Commerce, and was previously the Business Manager for Longyear, Inc.

Governor Dayton said, “I have great confidence that Representative Sertich will be an outstanding Commissioner of the IRRRB, and will provide the strong leadership that the agency needs to fulfill its important mission to the people on the Iron Range.  He will have my full support and active involvement in searching for every possible new business and new job for the Range.”

“It is a tremendous honor to be selected by Governor Dayton, who shares a commitment to Northeastern Minnesota” said Rep. Sertich. “Both Governor Dayton and I are dedicated to seeing the Iron Range continue to adapt and evolve economically as we move deeper into the twenty-first century.  As a fourth generation Ranger, there is nothing more important to me than seeing my home region’s economy strengthened, and that it provide more opportunities now and for future generations.”

Sertich represents District 05B in the Minnesota State House. He has served on the Capital Investment, Jobs and Economic Development Finance, Tax, and Ways and Means committees, and has been a member of the IRRRB.  He is a graduate of Chisholm High School and Hamline University and lives with this wife Tallie in Chisholm.

Representative Sertich will resign his House Seat on Thursday, January 13th. Governor Dayton will call a special election, as statute requires, and the special primary will occur on February 1st and the special election will be held on February 15th.

Sertich will hold a media availability at 11AM today in Chisholm.

  1. I’m more concerned about who Dayton has as his citizen appointee. Sertich will be who he always has been, hard DFL’er. We need a solid business man who’s not involved in politics. Jack Ryan from Hibbing, has done a great job on the board. He had a simple outlook on any proposal brought to the board, does it help the Range today and tomorrow, is it financially sound. Wish he was there when Giants Ridge was being done. The IRRRB writes a check for millions every year to keep that money eating operation up and running.
