Highway 53 reroute options become more clear

This Duluth News Tribune story details the two leading plans for rerouting Highway 53 as it approaches Virginia, Minnesota, from the south. Because of a deal forged between mining companies and the state back in 1960 the Minnesota DOT is on the hook for an expensive route change as the mine, in this case Cleveland Cliffs’ Eveleth property, approaches the road.

The story features a crisp, clear graphic that gives you a good sense of the two options. This story also inspired my Sunday column this week, which I think you’ll enjoy. (Hint: Think of a famous sentient car that sports the number 53)
