18-pt trophy stag chef Wolfgang Buck on KAXE Saturday

Last weekend’s poor weather has put Minnesota’s 2012 deer harvest down 14 percent from last year. Now, the final weekend of rifle deer hunting is upon us.

On Saturday morning, from 10 a.m. to noon, Northern Community Radio’s “Between You and Me” will talk about cooking for Thanksgiving. I chose to talk about interesting ways to cook venison. Of course, you know that I don’t know anything about hunting or venison. That’s why I invited a special guest onto a cooking segment, the famed 18-point trophy stag chef, Wolfgang Buck.

You can see this will be an unusual entry into the canon. Yesterday I went down to the recording room with a pool cue, a metal bowl, a bag of potatoes and slippers that sounded like hooves. My computer was loaded with rutting deer sound effects. (Note to authorities: I only have these files because I was doing research).

Whether you are a fan of deer hunting or not, I think you’ll enjoy this segment. “Between You and Me” airs from 10 a.m. to noon on 91.7 KAXE on the Iron Range, 90.5 KBXE in Bemidji and 89.9 Brainerd, streaming live at the KAXE website. My piece often airs in the first half hour.
