Group aims to re-engage Hibbing theater community

The cancellation of the award-winning theater program at Hibbing Community College amid the budget tumult of the past several years shook the Iron Range arts community. But there are green shoots here and there, notably with the foundation of a new community theater group called “Encore of Hibbing.” A group of actors and theater types who were regulars in the HCC and other regional productions have banded together to produce quality live theater in the heart of the Iron Range.

Their first production is coming up later this month with a dinner theater presentation of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged),” a comic take on The Bard’s many plays. The poster is displayed below. The show runs April 26-27 and May 2-3 at Zimmy’s, the Bob Dylan-themed bar and restaurant in the singer’s hometown.

It’s dinner theater, so advanced tickets are required. You can find them at Zimmy’s or Howard Street Booksellers in Hibbing. Call Zimmy’s at 218-262-6145 for more information.
