The USA Olympic Curling teams both lost today in Sochi, each falling to 0-2 in round-robin play. The men’s team, which is composed entirely of Iron Range and Duluth curlers, lost to China 9-4. The women lost to Russia 9-6 despite holding an early lead. This follows yesterday’s disappointing debut for the two teams.

The women play Great Britain this afternoon, a tough match. The men play a stout Danish team tonight at 11 p.m. Minnesota time. One good thing for the men is that tournament favorite Canada is off to a poor 1-2 start, which means more teams have a chance at a medal than previously believed.

UPDATE: It is not getting better. The women’s USA Olympic Curling team lost badly to Great Britain in the afternoon match, 12-3. They gave up 7 points on one end, a new Olympic record! Which is hard to even imagine. Hopes for America’s second-ever curling medal are fading.
