The largest underground mine in the world was a slate mine in Wales that had been mined off and on since the Roman Empire. Mining there ended in the early 20th Century and the mine would gradually become a tourist attraction, not unlike northern Minnesota’s own Soudan Underground Mine State Park.

But there’s no way we could could pull off what a company is doing in an old Welsh mine now. The Daily Mail reports on how this huge mine has been effectively rendered into a bounce house.

“Bounce Below” is a part of the Zip World attraction, and they’re offering trips down to the mine in Blaenau Ffestiniog, North Wales. There are three big trampolines for people to jump on, all connected by a series of chutes and slides. Bright, colorful lights give the cool, dark caverns a dressed-up look for the merriment.

If the existence of an underground mine trampoline attraction wasn’t enough to distinguish this old mine, you should know that the Daily Mail also reports its history as a storage site for fine art during WWII and suggests that it’s still rumored to be the nuclear bunker for Britain’s Royal Family.

That’s what the particle accelerator should look like.

  2. This would be such a fun place to go. I didn’t know that underground mines like this could be turned into such unique places to see. It would make sense that it could be a nuclear bunker as well. This was fun to read. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Aaron, thanks a lot. No I want to go this type of show.
