Those interested in exploring a career in mining should check out the state Department of Employment and Economic Development’s Mining Industry Day at the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm this Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Often my work here at MinnesotaBrown is painted as “anti-mining” and I really don’t care for that characterization. Five generations of my family have worked in Iron Range mines. Mining is an important part of our local, national and world economy. It produces things we need to function in modern society. And it’s good work — safer and better paying than it’s ever been before. For the right person, especially in Northern Minnesota, mining is a viable and worthwhile career choice.
Mining won’t fill up the schools or bring in a Chipotle, though. That’s why I keep writing what I do.
