This year’s Kurtfest includes dozens of bands in six Eveleth venues on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015.

My first two jobs were in Eveleth. The first gig was delivering pizza’s at Snicker’s; the second was spinning adult contemporary records (and also carts and CDs) for 97.9 WEVE-FM. The combination of these jobs gave me a holistic view of the town that it would normally take many years to get.

In short, it’s a charming blue collar town hovering above a sea of social disorder. In other words, a pretty typical Range town.

Though it’s been happening off and on since 2006, the loud, rowdy music festival Kurtfest had slipped under my radar until now. But on Aug. 29 it will light up the big city of Eveleth with music that I can easily imagine enthralling the citizens of this gritty epicenter of the Mesabi Iron Range.

What’s on tap? Scads of bands playing at one of six venues in downtown Eveleth, all within easy walking distance. Rock ‘n’ Roll, metal, hip-hop, punk, alternative, punk, acoustic and some stuff that seems hard to classify. Every band has Minnesota ties, with most coming from Duluth and the Range.

You can get the complete picture at Kurtfest.com, and read more about the bands. Below you’ll find the summary of the schedule as pulled from that website.
