At 2 p.m. on Monday, July 4, Northern Community Radio will rebroadcast the most recent live episode of my Great Northern Radio Show. Let us provide the soundtrack to your holiday activities.

Our June show was recorded in front of almost 600 people at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

The show featured Sonny Knight and the Lakers, Charlie Parr, and Sam Miltich and the Clearwater Hot Club featuring Charmin Michelle. I performed a couple monologues and we ran a number of sketches with the Great Northern Radio Players. Special guests included Kathy Annette of the Blandin Foundation, mobility advocate Myrna Peterson and logger-turned-white pine advocate Jack Rajala.

This was a meaningful show. For one thing, it turned out very well. We’ve been working to make the show even better and I think some of our efforts are paying off. This was also our 20th show and the conclusion of our fifth year on the air.

You can listen to the show at 2 p.m. Monday on 91.7 KAXE (Grand Rapids, Iron Range, Aitkin), 90.5 KBXE (Bagley and Bemidji), 89.9 (Brainerd) or 103.9 (Ely) or streaming on www.kaxe.org. The Great Northern Radio Show website is now fully operational, providing complete shows and archived segments from all five years of the show so far.

Our next show is Saturday, Sept. 24 at Fortune Bay Resort and Casino in Tower, Minnesota. We’ll be trying some new things in our upcoming sixth season, so stay tuned for some of the exciting changes and additions to the Great Northern Radio Show.

Meantime, here are some pictures for the June 18 show in Grand Rapids, all taken by our staff photographer Grant Frashier.
