You say biofuel, I say moonshine!

I take a lot of pride that this is the only blog in Minnesota, nay, the WORLD, that had been using “moonshine” as a tag label long before this story ran yesterday.

It appears that a demolition worker uncovered several bottles of prohibition era alcohol in unmarked bottles at Sammy’s Pizza in Hibbing, under renovation after a fire a few weeks ago. The Iron Range was something of a haven for bootleggers and, to a lesser extent, moonshiners back in the 1920s and ’30s. Homemade grain alcohol lost popularity after prohibition, but today almost all of us run moonshine every day in our gas tanks. This prompts a delayed tribute to the late Charlton Heston:

“Ethanol is MOONSHINE! MOOOOONSHIIIINE!”

Enjoy the obscure reference and have a great day.
