Obama to declare victory in MINNESOTA

Hell yes! The only better news would be if he did this at Zimmy’s bar in downtown Hibbing.

This is the first true 21st century election of our lives. It’s never been a better time in history to be a Minnesota political junkie with limited social skills and a laptop.

Get ready!

From the Associated Press

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama is coming back to Minnesota.

Obama is scheduled to speak Tuesday evening at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. That’s according to Tina Smith, senior adviser to the Obama campaign in Minnesota.

The event is free and open to the public.

The last time Obama appeared in Minnesota was the weekend before last February’s “Super Tuesday.” The Illinois senator drew almost 20,000 to the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.

Obama is trying to wrap up his Democratic primary race with Hillary Rodham Clinton. The last primaries will be held Tuesday.

Xcel Energy Center also is the site of the Republican National Convention, where John McCain is expected to formally receive the GOP nomination for president in September.

Lets just hope his declaration of “victory” doesn’t turn out like “mission-accomplished”. The only victory that matters is in November. Clinton has been making a persuasive case that is going to be difficult for Obama to achieve.

Um, earth to poster above, Obama’s case is winning right now. My sister and I, have RSVP’d for our little piece of history on Tuesday. We will be making our way down from the Iron Range. Oh, by the way, did you see that more people in CA now support Obama than Hillary? I’d say she may be losing her case at this point. Also, take note, according to an analysis by Pablano at fivethirtyeight.com; McCain has been attacked nine times during the primary, Obama has been attacked 151 times and Hillary has had to defend herself from attacks a pathetic nine times. That may be a reason Obama doesn’t poll as well right now. You can’t tell me that if the focus were on her she wouldn’t be in the gutter. Too much baggage and triangulation to put on her. But, If the GE looks anything like the back and forth between Obama and McCain’s recent fights Obama is going to blow McCain out of the water.

The longer this Hillary-Harangue goes on, the more I am clear about my support for Obama. The LAST thing we need in this country is another President who is so bull-headed they can’t deal with the obvious.

I suppose that is true – he looks like he won the nomination. But if he doesn’t come up with a message that appeals to people that aren’t liberal Democrats he isn’t going to win in the fall. And every effort he has made to do that has fallen flat. He lost ground with his messages in both Indiana and North Carolina and then just gave up the effort in West Virginia and Kentucky.

Declaring victory now is very similar to the delusion that the hard part was going to be invading Iraq, defeating the Iraqi army and deposing Saddam.

Don’t lose sight of what this election is about, not Obama vs. Hillary. It’s a Democratic candidate vs. a hypocritic, know-nothing-about-the-economy, 100-year-rule-the-world-mentality that the other party nominated who’s George Bush-lite!

Democrats got this one in the bag.

I think the reason that he lost ground in some of the later states (PA, KY, WV) was because many of those voters are openly racist and would not have voted for him anyway (esp KY & WV). In addition, operation chaos (instigated by the Rush Limbaugh) did have an effect in many of those open primaries. I have seen some estimates as high as 14%. I find it incomprehensible that ditto heads had an effect on our Democratic primary.

Declaring victory for Barack Obama is not a delusion. Hillary not accepting defeat is a delusion. I think the argument you are floating does not work. The points you are making only reflect the calendar of the primary. Obama didn’t concede any states. He knew exactly where to go to get maximum delegates. He knew the demographics of states and congressional districts. From that he determined which ones favored him and concentrated on them in order to gain maximum delegates.

I think people forget that each state has unique demographics and certain candidates will do better in some and than in others. Hence, Clinton winning WV, KY, TN, etc and Obama winning MN, WI, IL, etc. All of the primaries accurately reflected the demographics of state. Obama planned and knew exactly where, down to the congressional district, he could maximize his margins and drive up his delegate wins. Hillary didn’t plan like that and she lost delegates because of it. Now, she has realized she didn’t strategize for this and she is trying to change the rules and cheat her way to a victory.

If any person sits down and looks at John McCain’s policies vs. Barack Obama’s policies a majority of them will identify more with Barack Obama’s (our Democratic party policies and positions). A recent survey showed that when people were asked which they agreed with more, a majority identified more with Democratic positions (Barack Obama) than they did with Republican. This happened when the positions were not tied to a particular party as well as when they were. I find this revealing. Many people don’t actually look at specific party positions. They tend to vote on identities. Maybe some will start to realize that the Republican party doesn’t represent what they actually believe is good for them anymore.

“Democrats got this one in the bag.”

Lets hope so. But that isn’t what the polls show right now. Despite how unpopular Bush is, McCain is running a competitive race and leading Obama in several critical states.

And the recent southern elections where Democratic candidates ran away from Obama, instead of with him, are not a good sign. If local candidates are distancing themselves from the Presidential candidate, that is going to send a clear message to voters in those states.

I think some Democrats are remarkably over-confident about the fall. Mission Accomplished, re deus.

If that’s true, how does it increase Obama’s chances in the fall? Obama certainly put together a coalition that has given him a very narrow victory in the Democratic party. But blacks and liberal Democrats aren’t going to be enough to elect him President.

To the poster concerned about southern votes running from Obama in the primary…a Democrat would likely not win those states in a general. Please don’t base your case for Hillary on that argument. It is weak. Also, we are six months out from the election. You don’t have much ground to walk on with current polling data. The atmosphere is likely to be different half a year from now. And, it sounds like your saying that since Hillary came close to winning the Dem nomination she should get it. What do you think people who helped Obama actually win the nomination would think of that? Obama won. Let’s turn our full attention to mccain and get the repubs out. I have three small children and I don’t want to have to worry about them being drafted because someone else decides to lie us into another war.

My biggest concern with this election is the same as the last several – that our populace is very inclined to be swayed by the talk radio blow hards who use religion, gender issues, race, and any other harum scarum issue to push the voters toward the republican party. My fear is the only weapon that will work against this is for the left to develop the same fear tactics. Wow, we REALLY don’t need that, but what if it is the only thing that works?

This election will tell the tale. Will people vote for the new face with the voice of hope and the ability to talk turkey? Or will they follow the lead of the scare tactic right wing repugnicans such as Limbaugh et al?
