LIVEBLOG: The Iron Range’s 5B smackdown

Meantime, up north, State Rep. and House Majority Leader Tony Sertich (DFL-Chisholm) faces a primary challenge from Marc Pocrnich, who is running for increased Hibbing representation and in opposition to a shared sewer project between Hibbing and neighboring towns. Most elections are about crap, but this one is really about crap.

As with my Duluth post, hit refresh and watch the magic happen. Got an opinion? Share it in the comments.

UPDATE 4: 10:08) This is my last post, even though Hibbing and Chisholm aren’t in yet. I’ll touch up in the morning. Sertich has carried McDavitt Township, former home of Brown and Sons Salvage, 42-1. The overall total, with many votes to count, is Sertich 87.5 percent to Pocrnich 12.5 percent.

UPDATE 3 (9:29): Please Hammer, don’t hurt him! The gap is widening. With 27 percent reporting, Sertich leads with 84 percent. All of the precincts reporting are south of the Range, in the bogs between the Duluth and the Hibbing to Chisholm corridor. (I grew up in these bogs, foraging for nuts and carcasses). Pocrnich is counting on Hibbing to deliver big to send a message. Sertich should expect ridiculously high support from Chisholm. Both of them haven’t reported yet.

UPDATE 2 (8:48): Sertich leads 2-1! Quite literally. Ness Precinct has reported and its three DFL voters made their voices heard.

UPDATE 1: Polls close … NOW!
