I’ll be giving the keynote speech at the Virginia (Minn.) Historical Society Dinner this Friday. The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner and my whatsit to follow. Unfortunately, I didn’t get this up in time for anyone to RSVP for the dinner but you can check out the events page at the Virginia Historical Society. Maybe you could beg a seat for the speech. In any event, this local historical society — like the many across Minnesota — deserves your financial support.
I must admit that this event could be my Waterloo. One time at a book signing I was pressured to describe the genre of this book. “Histro-tainment,” I blurted. Yeah, that sounds like the sort of thing that would cause actual historians to shudder.
Wish me luck. As always, I aim to deliver something out of the ordinary in my ongoing mission to shine a 21st century light on this unique American place.
Have you watched the History Channel lately? It’s all about “histro-tainment.” Good luck!
