Minnesota Orchestra in Hibbing all week

Arts, Entertainment & CultureWith the Minnesota Orchestra now back on its feet after a long labor dispute, the Iron Range community of Hibbing will welcome the Minnesota Orchestra’s four-day residence program this week and major performance Friday evening.

The orchestra’s outreach program will work with community and student musicians throughout the week. Folks might remember the success of the Minnesota’s Orchestra’s visit to Grand Rapids in 2011. It was shortly after that visit that the Minnesota Orchestra board locked out the musicians for 15 months over a contract dispute. That lock-out prevented the Hibbing visit from happening as scheduled last year.

The culmination of this week-long arts experience on the Iron Range will be the 7 p.m. Friday performance at the historic Hibbing High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at Howard Street Booksellers, Security State Bank and the Hibbing Public Library. All of the educational events are free, including a daytime Friday performance for Hibbing High School students.

We saw the Minnesota Orchestra play the Hibbing High School auditorium about 13 years ago and it was an amazing combination of performance and place. You should try to go if you can.
