Upper Midwest adds color to bars vs. groceries data

This maps shows locations where bars outnumber grocery stores in red. As you can see, the Iron Range is red, as is nearly the entire state of Wisconsin. (h/t floatingsheep.org via Ezra Klein)

Not much to add here, other than this is a map comparing the number of bars to the number of grocery stores in locations around the United States. Most of the time you find more grocery stories than bars. In the states of Wisconsin and Illinois, and here on the Iron Range of northern Minnesota, however, those figures are released. My back-of-the-envelope math would put the ratio of bars to grocery stores at 4-1 or even 5-1 in some Iron Range towns.

The ratio of bars to churches would also be an interesting comparison.
