Duluth airport gets Oberstar name; Hibbing gets plaque or something

The new Duluth International Airport terminal will be named for the late Rep. Jim Oberstar, a transportation and aviation titan during his 36 years in Congress. Duluth had been in competition with the Range Regional Airport in Hibbing for the rights to name their new terminal after Oberstar.

Oberstar was instrumental in the development of both facilities, but was raised on the Iron Range in Chisholm, which shares the airport with Hibbing. Duluth, however, is the larger airport with more flights.

The Hibbing terminal is still a couple years from a major renovation. Officials say they will find some way of honoring Oberstar at the Range Regional Airport, most likely in some kind of display or tribute placed inside the building.
