Hi all — some rather big news buried in the press release for my Nov. 9 Great Northern Radio Show at the Hibbing High School auditorium. If you haven’t seen the Great Northern yet, this may be your last chance for a long while. Anywhere from two years to forever.

More to come on the decision and the new projects.

Oh, and I can confirm that we’ll be using the pipe organ. THE PIPE ORGAN!

Jillian Rae will perform at the Nov. 9, 2019 Great Northern Radio Show in Hibbing.

Great Northern Radio Show in Hibbing

Live variety program to feature Jillian Rae, Sugar on the Roof

HIBBING, Minnesota— The Great Northern Radio Show will return to Hibbing, Minnesota for a Nov. 9, 2019 live broadcast at the Hibbing High School auditorium. This special event will celebrate the Hibbing Foundation’s 26th anniversary and Hibbing’s 126th birthday. Proceeds will benefit the Hibbing Foundation, which is also underwriting the program.

The Great Northern Radio Show is a traveling variety program produced by Northern Community Radio, an independent National Public Radio affiliate serving Northern Minnesota. Through original comedy, stories and music, the Great Northern Radio Show celebrates life in small towns and rural places.

Writer, producer and host Aaron Brown leads a talented cast through local legend and real life, celebrating Northern Minnesota and the people who make it special. This program holds special significance as the Great Northern Radio Show prepares to enter a long term hiatus while Brown works on a special podcast serial and book.

“This show has been an important part of my life and the Minnesota music scene for more than eight years,” said Brown. “We want to celebrate the first leg of our journey with a big show on the beautiful Hibbing High School stage. Hibbing is where this show began and we’re grateful to the Hibbing Foundation for making it possible.”

The Nov. 9 program will feature rising Minnesota music star and Iron Range native Jillian Rae with her band. Rae defies genres, mixing bluegrass and country roots with rock ’n’ roll. The program will also feature Sugar on the Roof, an old time Americana band featuring Jefferson and Megan Reynolds of Hibbing and Clancy Ward of Duluth.

Sugar on the Roof will perform at the Nov. 9, 2019 Great Northern Radio Show.

The show’s all star house band The Occasionals features bandleader Katie Houg on keyboard and vocals, Eric Carlson on guitar and vocals, Aaron Schnackenburg on bass and Doug Quance on drums. The Great Northern Radio Players for this show include Jason Scorich and Louisa Scorich of Duluth, Brett Carter of Bagley, C.J. Anderson of Pequot Lakes, Lauren Nickisch of Pequot Lakes on foley sound effects. Special guests from Hibbing will be a part of the program as well.

The program will air live from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019. All tickets are general admission and cost $15. Audience must be in their seats by 4:30. Seating is limited.
