Go C-SPAN if you’ve got it

I watched all the convention speeches on C-SPAN last night. The previous nights I had watched MSNBC. Let me tell you, it was like drinking water from a well instead of a septic tank. I don’t think CNN has been much better than MSNBC and the clips I’ve seen of Fox News have all been horror shows.

With all of these hand-wringing, fist waving, bloviating, red faced talking heads talking over half the speeches and ignoring the actual content of the others, you miss the speeches as they were intended. Some of the speeches are good and make sense. Some of them are bad and don’t. You’ll know which are which. Trust me, you don’t need to know what commentators think about these speeches. I’ve learned the hard way. I’m betting the same will be true of the Republican convention next week.

Comments

  1. But without the commentators, how will we know if a speech was good or not? Hearing the whole content of the speech leaves so little time for “analysis” of the speech.

  2. What do you mean CSPAN? I need to be told what to think, and hear quotes of speeches taken out of context. I certainly don’t want to hear about plans for vet benefits, solving the foreclosure crisis, green energy plans or any other such nonsense. Most of all, I need to know what some right wing thug thinks about the speech. I’m just an American voter, I don’t ask for much.

  3. Thank goodness for CSPAN. I have been close to a stroke several times listening to MSNBC and the other networks.

  4. Too bad that not everyone can afford to get CSPAN. They’re forced to draw their conclusions from the (often slanted) analysis and opinions of others.

I pity those who only get their news filtered through less than reliable sources – Fox News, the Bush Administration, the Republican Party, the US Chamber of Commerce, friends, family, or their spiritual advisor.
