Obama campaign doubles efforts on the Iron Range

It’s that special time of year when the national campaigns dispatch their people into the field for the fall push. The Republicans got a small notice in the papers and TV stations over the weekend by opening their John McCain office in Duluth, where Obama has had several staffers stationed most of the summer. Now the Campaign for Change, Obama’s field organization, is opening two offices on the Iron Range. The first, Virginia, will be opening tomorrow (the official release is below) and another will be opening on the central or west Range soon, according to campaign folks. This is already double the staffing we normally see up here in a presidential year. Their goal — accomplished effectively by the Kerry folks four years ago — is to turn out massive numbers of voters in this strong Democratic area.

This Tuesday, August 19th, please join the Minnesota Campaign for Change at the opening of the first of two offices on the Iron Range. You’ll hear from special guest State Rep. Tom Rukavina, meet Campaign for Change staff and fellow supporters in the area, and learn how you can make a difference in Minnesota.

Here are the details:

Minnesota Campaign for Change
Virginia Office Opening

  1. This is great news. Turnout in CD8 is usually very good, but the higher the turnout, the better hedge we’ll have against districts like CD6.

This should really help Franken as well.

  2. I am just not a fan of Obama. I think this will be a very interesting race especially here in Minnesota. I like close races anyway so i am looking forward to November 4th.

  3. I was at the office opening in Virginia. How exciting! There were 40 or so supporters there and everyone was happy to be out in support of Obama and local DFLers. There was also a wacky dude outside protesting with information that was just to out there to be even considered believable. Where do these nut jobs come from? Any way, it was fun and I think it is great that there is going to be a presence like this on the Iron Range. Tomassoni did not speak bur Rukavina, an Obama staffer and a DFL staffer spoke. In addition they mentioned a group: Veterans for Obama that has been formed and will be making their presence known on the Range. Go Obama and DFL!

  4. I was at the Virginia Office opening today, and I am not some nut job, do your homework and ask Obama about his extra marital affairs with gay men and his 1999 drug use and his lover Donald Youngs murder.

    Thank you,

    Larry Sinclair

  5. Well, I think I’ve finally made it as an Iron Range blogger. I promote an event, it goes well except for the nut job, and the nut job responds in person and by name. Hi mom!

  6. Oh, for goodness sake! THE Larry Sinclair? You have got to be kidding me? I can’t believe I crossed paths with him. Last I heard from him he was trolling at the Rules and Bylaws committee meeting this Spring. I have done plenty of homework Mr. Sinclair. Your lies have been refuted many times. The absurdity of your claims disqualify you as legitimate.

  7. I was also at the opening of the Obama office in Virginia and was extremely happy at the turn out of the new office. There where more people there than at the opening of the office in Duluth. I am also a vet and was especially happy to see the number of veterans there. The thing that really suprises me is that veterans as a whole are Republican. I’ve also noticed that the less combat they saw, the more likely they are to be PRO WAR and vocal for anything Republican. Lets hope that we don’t have 4 more years of a “Bush Clone”. Change is in the air and it’s great to see the Range recognized as an important place for the parties to get their message out.
