This week at MinnesotaBrown…

Today is our 8th wedding anniversary, officially ensuring that our marriage will outlast the Bush Administration. Happy anniversary, Christina. We made it!

This week I’m working on a column that connects the historical parallels between the politics and economic news of the 1920s to those we see today. I’m specifically focusing on Minnesota and the Iron Range. I’ve been reading history books again and saw Charlie Chaplain’s “Modern Times” (1936) for the first time on Turner Classic Movies last night. Sorry to drag you through the machinations of my political consciousness.

On the subject of consciousness, I had a dream two nights ago that I still remember. Usually I forget these crazy things before my morning coffee. In the dream, I open my front door and see a giant deer. An insanely big deer that looks like it’s going to charge me. But then it bolts off and two equally giant wolves chase it in succession. A third wolf looks like it’s going to follow, but it stops right in front of my door and looks at me. I close the door. Then there’s a knock. What follows is a mapcap adventure dream that walks the line between satire and horror flick involving a local volunteer fire department, a race track murder, inept city police and more wolves. I’d go into the details if I thought you wouldn’t try to have me committed afterward.

Oh, and there’s an equally crazy election going on. I’ll try to offer some perspective on that, too, though this campaign’s true nature might be as hard to discern as my dream.
