7B DFL PRIMARY FOCUS: John Derbis

MinnesotaBrown is running a series of posts this week featuring the DFL candidates for Duluth’s House District 7B in their own words. The winner of the Sept. 9 DFL primary will face Republican Allan Kehr and Independence Party candidate Jay Cole, who do not face primary opposition.

Yesterday, we featured Brandon Clokey. Today, continuing in alphabetical order, is John Derbis. Dan Maryland, Roger Reinert and Marsh Stenersen will follow.

Mr. Derbis, a UMD student and DFL volunteer, did not respond to the MinnesotaBrown request. He also did not attend a recent DFL candidates forum. A source in Duluth says that Derbis has not been campaigning and may end up supporting someone else in the primary, though his name would remain on the ballot. In any event, it is good to have a broad range of candidates in a primary like this and Derbis could enjoy a political future after this first experience of running a campaign, which for the time being looks likely to fall short.

The candidate profile for Dan Maryland will follow later today, allowing all candidates to appear before the weekend.
