Heartland tour reaches Range on Friday

Though today the campaign goes silent in honor of the 9/11 victims, Friday brings the Range leg of the Barack Obama “Heartland for Change” tour. This is where the campaign sends an RV with local Democrats and campaign leaders to listen to folks all over Minnesota.

The tour starts in Ely Friday morning at 9:30 (not sure where yet; look for the giant Obama RV), reaches downtown Virginia at noon and closes in Hibbing at 2 p.m. at Grandma’s Restaurant along Highway 169. I’ll be at that last stop and will try to get some reaction up here on the blog afterward.

I was not at the Grand Rapids stop Wednesday afternoon at Bixby’s, but I heard that the crowd was healthy sized and enthusiastic. A lot of party regulars were worried that the event was under publicized, but a contingency of young people new to the process showed up. I guess Obama’s Internet influence is paying dividends even here in web-poor northern Minnesota.
