Heffernan is back, with book and blog

Last June I wrote about the unfortunate separation between the Duluth News Tribune and its longtime columnist Jim Heffernan, who had previously worked for decades in the DNT’s newsroom. We have not heard the end of Mr. Heffernan. In fact, he’ll be joining me in the northern Minnesota blogsphere and writing a monthly column for a local magazine. Here’s the release.

PRESS RELEASE:Jim Heffernan, new columnist and blogger with the Duluth~Superior Magazine (http://www.duluthsuperiormagazine.com/), announces that he has a book coming out for the Holidays. The book, Cooler Near the Lake, is a collection of 52 favorite columns while writing a weekly column with the Duluth News Tribune. It will be in bookstores this November or may be ordered by contacting the publisher, X-Communication, at http://www.x-communmication.org/ or at Jim’s new blog: http://www.jimheffernan.org/ soon.

Jim worked for the Duluth News Tribune for 42 years, covering all manner of beats. When the column was not renewed at the paper last summer, he said that several nice offers to continue writing elsewhere came in and that he eventually accepted this one at Duluth/Superior Magazine. The blog is firing up now in advance of the book’s release.

To think! Blogging as a way to sell a book! For shame!

My new book “Overburden: Modern Life on the Iron Range” will be released Oct. 14 through the insurgent new Duluth print house Red Step Press. Events are scheduled across the Range and Duluth this fall.

Oh, new media. Why do you force us back to old media to acquire folding money?

Anyway, all kidding aside, it’s nice to see Jim writing again in Northern Minnesota. On we go …
