Range ‘Cost of War’ event aims to show how the big picture affects small towns, Iron Range

At 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Obama campaign is organizing a “Local Cost of War” press conference at the Howard Street Barack Obama/DFL headquarters in downtown Hibbing in the heart of the Iron Range. The event features State Auditor Rebecca Otto and several Iron Range and other small town elected officials. They will demonstrate the cost to small towns of the ongoing occupation of Iraq in real dollars. It should be an interesting presentation. Otto is another rising star in state DFL politics. Interesting how so many of these rising stars are leading these Obama message tours across the Range. Hmmm.

Otto has wind turbines on her property (sweet) and, as I learned when I stood near her during the national anthem at the 2006 DFL state convention, she can really belt the Star Spangled Banner. Big time.

Anyway, come on down Wednesday afternoon. The DFL headquarters is two doors down from the Howard Street Booksellers. Ah-hem. (cough cough). (long pause). Well, no more needs to be said.

UPDATE: There is a similar event going on in Duluth with Otto and Mayor Don Ness at 11 a.m. Location “TBA” which means it will probably be at the downtown DFL headquarters, unless someone has other information.

The Range officials at the Hibbing event include Chisholm Mayor Mike Jugovich (increasingly proving himself as a Iron Range DFL soldier), Eveleth City Councilor Liz Kuoppola (an ambitious youngish political prospect from the east Range) and Virginia City Councilor Nevada Littlewolf (ditto).
