Hillary in Hibbing

It’s official. Sen. Hillary Clinton will speak at the Hibbing Memorial Building on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 21. Doors open at 6 p.m. and you should RSVP if you want tickets or press access. The program begins at 7 p.m. I’m sure there will be more juicy tidbits about this program as the day approaches. I plan to be there.

Here’s why this visit is more notable than that of just any surrogate. Barack Obama carried the Minnesota caucuses by wide margins. I was one of many who went out to my local hall and marked Barack’s name on my ballot. But, on the Iron Range, Clinton did very well. She carried several rural precincts, Chisholm and, yes, Hibbing, by a wide margin. Obama carried other Range towns by very slim margins. Clinton’s presence here means as much to local Democrats as Joe Biden’s would have. The Clintons are still very popular up here and this will be a very interesting evening on Tuesday. The Memorial Building is a fantastic venue for a rally, so long as you fill it with 5,000 people. That’s plausible. Stay tuned.

  1. I’m excited to see what kind of response Hillary gets tomorrow night. Maybe she’ll bring Bill along for the ride.
