‘Overburden’ shifts up a gear

Business North this month features a Beth Bily story about my new book, “Overburden: Modern Life on the Iron Range.” We’ve had a very successful first week of release and we haven’t even started the fun stuff yet. I have a series of lectures and other events that run once a week every week after the election is over. I’m taking these lectures very seriously and hope to make them exceptionally entertaining and thought-provoking. Give the people a show, I always say. Get your copy now at Barnes and Noble in Duluth or at most Iron Range independent bookstores. It’s also available online for fast home delivery from BN.com.

You can also get a copy by becoming a member of KAXE, Northern Community Radio. Call 218-326-1234 for more information. I can’t say enough good things about KAXE. In addition to being the most important and highest quality media organization in northern Minnesota, my writing work for them was central in the development of this book and probably future books as well.

Meantime, here are some new book events that have been scheduled. Mark your calendars!

NEW ITEM #1: LIVE TV!
Tuesday, Nov. 11
6:10 IN THE MORNING! IN DULUTH! WTF!
Live interview on “Good Morning Northland” on WDIO, Channel 10 (ABC)

Host Cassie Limpert is talking to me about the book, the Range and anything else we can fit in 3.5 minutes under the hot a.m. lights. For the occasion, I plan to comb my hair and wear matching clothes. Damn TV standards! I’ll also be waking up at 3 a.m. and downing a handful of trucker pills to get there from my post in the deep woods. Should be worth it, though. GMN is a popular program all over the region. I’ll be promoting the signing and reading at the Duluth Barnes and Noble scheduled the next day (Nov. 12).

NEW ITEM #2: Hot times in Gilbert
Wednesday, Nov. 19
6:30 p.m.
Gilbert Public Library
Lecture, reading and book signing

In the old days, Gilbert was the hottest party town on the Range. One look at its wide streets and copious selection of bars and, even today, you know it go from zero to riot in no time. Let’s see what happens! GPL, baby. Gilbert Public Library!

We also booked a Feb. 7, 2009 lecture at Ironworld. Stay tuned for more on that when it’s 2009.

As usual, the complete listing of events is on the right sidebar of the blog. Lots of lectures and signings to come. I’ll promote each of them in depth the week they take place.
