UPDATED: Hillary Clinton in the Duluth/Iron Range media

Here’s a roundup of coverage of Hillary Clinton’s visit to the Iron Range. I was there and filed this report and analysis.

Duluth News Tribune: “Clinton hits pocketbook issues in Iron Range rally for Obama” by Janna Goerdt.

Straight forward event story, starts by talking to Clinton supporter who’s still backing the ticket; I’m quoted in this one talking about what motivates Iron Range voters.

Mesabi Daily News: “Democrats turn out 5,000 strong for Clinton at Hibbing rally” and “Hillary Hysteria” by Bill Hanna.

Bill gets an exclusive interview with Clinton in the second story. (So, apparently they ARE doing one-on-ones. Hmmm. Not for bloggers). Anyway, he asks what I would have asked and she said what I thought she would say. It’s interesting to hear her talk about the Iron Range.

I’ll add to the list later. I’ve got to eat some flakes and go to work.

UPDATE: Oh, the shame. I didn’t even quote my hometown Hibbing Daily Tribune first and they have the most comprehensive coverage I’ve ever seen them do for something like this. All hands on deck. It appears there were some protesters after all, but they were very low key because I milled around out front and out back for some time and never saw them.

Clinton rallies the Range” by Jeff Warner

One of the better synopses of Clinton’s speech.

Rally gets them riled up” by Kelly Grinsteinner

A great roundup of reactions with some emotional stories.

Future voters, leaders attend political event

Nice story about elementary, junior and high school students in attendance. None of them can vote yet. Dammit!

Hibbing is political hub for presidential rallies” by Jack Lynch

Superb historical look at the importance of the Hibbing Memorial Building venue in presidential history. Seriously, even Bob Dylan talks about this in his book “Chronicles.” This is a special place for a political rally on the Range.

Clinton visit draws pro-life demonstrators” by Mike Jennings

There weren’t many protesters, but on the Range most Republicans tend to be moved by social issues or guns. This seemed to be a polite demonstration that showed the alternative viewpoint.

Volunteers offer time, effort in Obama rally” by Matt Nelson

Even my former speech student Matt gets in the act by talking to volunteers at the event. It was cool to see two of my former students working this event, one as a reporter, the other as an organizer behind the scenes. And I’m not even that old. The world moves fast.

UPDATE 2: MPR’s Bob Kelliher has a story that includes audio of Tom Rukavina’s rouser.
