Thank you, Grand Rapids!

Thanks to everyone who came out for the KAXE Book Club meeting and my lecture at the Grand Rapids Public Library last night. The book, “Overburden: Modern Life on the Iron Range” is doing well. So well that you better order soon if you want a (potentially) collectible first edition copy. Act fast! Supplies are limited!

You want to know what made last night so extra special? As I’m walking up to the KAXE studios I see Heidi Holtan, host of the popular programs “Realgoodwords” and “Between You and Me,” peel out of the parking lot in her sleek foreign car. She rolls down the window and says she’ll be right back because they’re running out of wine. Fantastic! It would only be better if she’d had an empty keg in the passenger seat to turn in for the deposit and refill. I prefer the barley pop, but book people are vino people and I love book people so … when in Rome!

What a night! Nice people and great conversation. If you missed it, ICTV will be airing a tape of the library lecture on Grand Rapids cable access. This means my grainy visage will have appeared on cable systems in every corner of the Iron Range at some point in my meandering career as a public figure. Ever see “The Lawnmower Man?” I think this means I can make all the phones ring at the same time. At least, all the phones on the Iron Range.

Saturday brings my 1-3 p.m. signing at Woodward’s in Virginia’s Thunderbird Mall. I just picked up a “brown bag” (no pun intended) lunch discussion at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8 at my beloved Hibbing Community College. This is open to the public and will be held in B-202. I’ll be signing books there as well. State law prohibits wine consumption at this event.

Comments

  1. How about up putting the lecture on Youtube?

  2. If I can get a copy I will. I have some serious doubts about the sound quality and someone just told me today they saw the volunteer camera person doing a lot of “jiggling” so keep your expectations low.
