North vs. South

The Duluth News Tribune has an interesting editorial today decrying the “north-south” rift on the St. Louis County Board — the Iron Rangers being the “north” and the Duluthians the “south.” I wrote about this battle, fought under the guise of a hiring dispute, a couple days ago. The editorial board seemed especially miffed by this quote from the meeting:

“This is a north-versus-south battle … and I guess the Confederates are going to win this time,” Iron Range Commissioner Mike Forsman said.

You sure you don’t want to go with Normans vs. Saxons on this one, Mike? The historical context is at least plausible. If it were me I would have cursed the Norman marauders, preferably in Gaelic. I guess that’s why I’m not a county commissioner.

On a lighter note, if that’s possible, anyone remember that old Nintendo game “North vs. South?” It’s a civil war game where history can be rewritten by pushing the “A” and “B” buttons as fast as you can. Good times. No girlfriend, but good times.

  1. I don’t remember North vs. South, but I remember Defender of the Crown for the NES, and that was Normans vs. Saxons if I remember right.

Well I belong to the Sons Of the Confederates Company C Maryland Infintry Major General Elzey Camp.In Princess Anne, MD. Iv’e studied the confederacy along with the Union and the mathmatitical figure is over-melmelming the south vs the north. The south defeded the north 752,000 to 382,00. Quite an over-whelming count! But because of the numberers and the south’s men being undemaned from the north’s manafacturing, the south didn’t have a chance, but remember that in the begining we had the chance of taking Washington after 1ST manasses! Liccholn would have been dead sooner!
