‘Overburden’ now available on Amazon

Below is the press release I’ve put out for my “Overburden: Modern Life on the Iron Range” book tour stop in the Twin Cities next Wednesday and Thursday. In honor of the occasion, we finally got “Overburden” up on Amazon.com. We’ve been on bn.com since the beginning but you Amazon purists no longer have an excuse.

Range author to make Twin Cities debut
‘Overburden: Modern Life on the Iron Range’ a humorous, youthful look at booms, busts and the weight of history

(Feb. 25, 2009) – On March 11-12, Iron Range writer and blogger Aaron Brown will make his first tour stop in the Twin Cities area for his new book “Overburden: Modern Life on the Iron Range.” Brown will give a 4 p.m. reading at the University of Minnesota Bookstore at Coffman Memorial Union in Minneapolis on Wednesday, March 11 and do a noon book signing at the Eagan Barnes and Noble on Thursday, March 12.

“Overburden” is a creative nonfiction book about the past, present and future of the Iron Range told from a fifth generation under-30 Iron Ranger. The book includes interviews, stories, adventures and commentary that show the unique culture and history of one of Minnesota’s most fascinating regions.

“Whenever you hear about the Iron Range or any non-metro region you are often whisked away to an idealized past of blue collar values and struggle,” said Brown. “But the Iron Range is still alive and slowly adapting to a new but vital role in this 21st century. With the economy dominating headlines today, it bears mentioning that no region has had as much economic impact on Minnesota and America as Northern Minnesota’s Iron Range. And yet, today’s young Iron Rangers often don’t know what to make of their heritage and surroundings. This story isn’t finished yet.”

Brown, 29, became the youngest daily newspaper editor in Minnesota history in 2001 at the Hibbing Daily Tribune. He still writes a column for the Daily Tribune while crafting regular essays for independent public radio station KAXE and teaching full time for Hibbing Community College.

Brown is regularly featured in Politics in Minnesota and is often quoted and linked in the Minnesota blogosphere and media for his work as founder and editor of MinnesotaBrown.com, the Iron Range’s only daily news and politics blog. His writing has been recognized by the Minnesota Newspaper Association, Minnesota AP and the Northwest Broadcast News Association. “Overburden” is nominated for the Northeastern Minnesota Book Awards.
