Entenza has access to Clinton’s donor list?

Back during the 2008 presidential primaries, when Hillary Clinton’s campaign was on its last legs, my mother in law angrily demanded use of my wife’s e-mail address so she could donate to Hillary’s campaign. Since then she’s received an amusing amount of Hillary Clinton fundraising solicitations as Clinton seeks to retire her large debt from the campaign. Other than that my wife uses that address for zero political work. She hates politics, actually, and doesn’t look at political websites.

When Matt Entenza officially announced his campaign for governor yesterday I was one of many who predictably received an e-mail from him. But my wife got one too. Why? Is it possible that Matt Entenza has acquired Hillary Clinton’s e-mail list? Can anyone corroborate? Maybe this is a normal thing but it struck me as interesting and another example that the Entenza campaign intends to play hard for this nomination.

I’ll be interviewing Entenza next week.

And has anyone else noticed that Tim Pawlenty has been buying Google text ads under the keywords “governor” and “2010”? Oh, early drama!

  1. No mystery here, the DFL is a party that shares. When the presidential campaign ended the information was given to the DFL. A simple phone call to DFL St Paul headquarters should be able to turn off your wife’s email. However if it is not an official list, then that will be harder, then you will have to use email blocking on both source address and topic area. I have a DFL only email account to handle political traffic and expect most people do.

  2. Thanks for the info, Grace. That helps. I guess it seemed funny because this was the only non-Hillary e-mail my wife has ever received. She’s not overly bothered by it (it’s her SPAM-heavy account) but it seemed interesting to me. I wonder if she’ll get all the other candidates’ e-mails too?

  3. Hillary’s donations actually went through a number of websites. Only donations made directly to HillaryClinton.com went directly to Hillary’s accounts. Many supporters donated through private sites that then forwarded the donation info electronically to Hillary’s account. One of those middlemen was the DNC itself. Any of those sites could have a donor list. Hillary’s donor list is the one she collected via direct donations.
