Let the Not Bad Times Roll

The glass is always half full at the Mesabi Daily News. I wish I could muster this level of optimism in my life. Today, the paper’s editorial cites the scheduled callback of 321 Iron Range miners (out of thousands currently on layoff), the opening of a new hotel and the fact that local GM dealers are not closing as evidence of good economic news.

Some pessimists and naysayers might say the news was no big deal. Really. Well, just consider if the news had been reversed: No mining recalls, a hotel project put on hold indefinitely, local auto dealerships having to scramble or even close.

Yes, just think how bad things would be if we had a smoke monster. But we don’t. And that’s good news. Because what if we did?

Anyway, hats off to the boldest piece of optimism you’ll read today.
