‘Mr. Greyhound’ faces tough segregation questions

I made a big to-do out of the fact that Hibbing is the home of the three way watershed that feeds some of the world’s most important bodies of water last week. This week, the Duluth News Tribune points out that Hibbing is also the point of origin for the Greyhound Bus Company (even though Greyhound doesn’t come here anymore). Robin Washington pens a feature on the Greyhound Bus Museum and my friend Gene Nicolelli, easily one of the 10 most fascinating Iron Rangers you should meet.

Unlike other more quizzical or cute profiles, Washington points out that Greyhound’s role in segregation is not part of the museum. Valid point, but … uf-da, it’s a bus museum. Without the ironic unawareness of self-parody you run the risk of depressing people. Anyway, Gene handled it fine. The museum is a frequent target of taxpayer groups so it’s refreshing to see some different kinds of criticism. The bus museum is worth a stop on your visit to Hibbing as you head up into Old North Hibbing to see the Hull Rust Mine View.
