B’nai Abraham welcomes classical & down-home musicians

The B’nai Abraham Cultural Center in Virginia announces another event this Saturday, July 13 at 7 p.m.

It would not be summer without a much anticipated appearance by the Northern Lights Music Festival players, under the direction of their remarkable Festival founder, Veda Zuponcic. Her musicians come from all over the world, and study for three music –packed weeks at her camp in Aurora, and taught by faculties who have also come from all over the world. One of the stars will be Gavriel Heine, Veda’s son, who conducts major orchestras in Moscow. This will be her 5th year of appearing at the B’nai Abraham, and the building always rocks with applause when the performance is concluded. Although there is no charge for this concert, we will happily and gratefully accept contributions.

Later this summer, on Saturday, August 10 at 7 p.m., B’nai Abraham welcomes local musician, Pat Surface, a member of the famed LaPlant family, and his wife Donna.

They will perform an evening of nostalgic music which he titles “REMEMBER WHEN….the songs of the 60’s and the 70’s that underscored our lives.” Pat sings and plays his hand-built La Plant guitar, and is the founder of the award-winner band: the Boundary Water Boys. He is also the owner of the record label, Spiritwood Music of the Boundary Waters.

Joining along with Pat and Donna will be John Ely on pedal steel, and by the way, he is a two-time Grammy award winner! Jeff Menten will also be part of the group, playing fiddle – and he is MN Instrumentalist of The Year.
