Apparently Al Roker’s production company is looking for Iron Range reality show subjects for the NBC weatherman’s new program. Talk comes from the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce in Tower.
According to the chamber’s Facebook page, the casting company is looking for independent or family owned businesses, unique siblings and people who are the best at what they do.
Over the past couple years I’ve talked to a number of reality TV producers looking for fodder around these parts. Makes me wonder how many of them are out there.
Initially producers were emulating the popular shows based in Alaska a few years ago. Now everyone’s looking for the next “Duck Dynasty.” But it appears the fickle nature of reality TV viewing means that the production can’t launch fast enough to capture a trend. It’s almost as if someone has to have an concept based on some kind of artistic statement, then produce that work not knowing if people will like it or not.
