Iron Range nursing program offers advanced degrees

Iron Range newsThis week officials announced that a new shared program by Minnesota State University-Mankato and Hibbing Community College will create the opportunity for nurses to earn their RN Baccalaureate degree, Masters degree in Family Nurse Practitioner or Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees on the Iron Range.

Dubbed Iron Range Nursing and modeled after the successful Iron Range Engineering program (a Mankato State collaboration with Mesabi Range college), these programs will begin in Fall 2014.

Despite the region’s association with iron mining, the health care industry is the top employer on the Iron Range and demographics favor that being the case for a long, long time. Iron Range Nursing will fill a real employment gap in the region and provide opportunities to working nurses already living here.

DISCLOSURE: I work for Hibbing Community College as an instructor of communication.
