Port of Duluth to be blessed today as spring nears

Duluth, Minnesota, news and cultureThis afternoon in Duluth, Minnesota, brings the annual blessing of the port, a ceremony conducted before the opening of the shipping season. This is an additional reminder that though it does not feel like spring in northern Minnesota, it truly and technically is.

The TWIN PORTS MINISTRY TO SEAFARERS will host the annual Blessing of the Port on Thursday, March 20 at the Lake Superior Maritime Visitors Center (Marine Museum) 600 South Lake Avenue in Duluth. A brief service will be held at 5 p.m. (Doors open at 4:30 p.m.). The event will feature a forecast for 2014 Shipping Season by Vanta E. Coda II, Executive Director, Duluth Seaway Port Authority and a blessing of all involved in the Twin Ports’ maritime industry. There will be a musical tribune and refreshments to follow. Rev. Tom Anderson, director of the Twin Ports Ministry to Seafarers for the past decade, will be honored at this event as he is retiring this year.
