The Duluth News Tribune reports that the U.S. House of Representatives will honor the late Rep. Jim Oberstar on the floor with a moment of silence during tonight’s session.
Wednesday night, the Oberstar family will host a private wake in Washington, D.C. His public funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Potomac, Maryland. There has been no indication yet of a Minnesota memorial service.
Thursday, U.S. flagged Great Lakes carriers ships will fly their flags at half mast in Oberstar’s honor. The Interlake Shipping Company had renamed one of their ships for Oberstar in 2011.
My thoughts on Oberstar’s sudden passing last Saturday are here.
