The ‘bright lights’ of Great Northern Radio Show weekend

The Pioneer Mine in Ely is now a major cultural center and remains site of one of the major underground mines on the Vermilion Range. Fittingly, it is now directly across the street from a major hotel and convention center catering to tourists and business conventions. The Great Northern Radio Show broadcasts live from Ely on Saturday, June 14.

The Pioneer Mine in Ely, Minnesota, is now a cultural center and remains site of one of the major underground mines on the Vermilion Range. Fittingly, it is now directly across the street from a major hotel and convention center catering to tourists and business meetings. We’re headed up to Ely now, getting ready for Saturday’s big Great Northern Radio Show, broadcasting live 5-7 p.m. from the Vermilion Community College Theater. Find out how you can attend or listen here. I love show weekends. Love, love, love.

The above video was taken last weekend over Burntside Lake near Ely by “Tornado Bob” Conzemius, Northern Community Radio’s staff meteorologist and storm chaser, himself a guest on the very first Great Northern Radio Show back in 2011.

Great Northern Radio ShowI hope you’ll consider joining us in the theater, on the radio or streaming live on the internet tomorrow night. We’ve got a great lineup of music, comedy and stories. Our reservation list for free seats at the Vermilion Community College theater is full, but generally there are a few unclaimed spots from people who couldn’t make it. So if you really want to go, get over here before 4:30 on Saturday.

Most of you will listen to the show from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, June 14 on the radio. You can listen locally on 91.7 KAXE (Grand Rapids and the Iron Range), 90.5 (Bemidji and Bagley), 89.9 FM (Brainerd and Baxter) and 103.9 FM (Ely). You can stream Northern Community Radio live all over the world at www.kaxe.org.
