With all the talk about mining in Minnesota, maybe you’d like to see what a real northern Minnesota iron mine looks like in the year 2014. Never mind the picks and shovels, the technology and scope of today’s mining will surprise you if you haven’t seen it before. You can catch guided Hibbing Taconite mine tours in the summer every Thursday from June 19 through Aug. 8, departing from the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm.

Hibbing Taconite mine tours cost $5 and leave at 1 p.m. and return at 2:30. Though kids love to see the big equipment, Hibbing Taconite mine tours are recommended for people aged 12 or older. To make reservations or for more information, call the Minnesota Discovery Center at 800.372.6437 or 218.254.7959.
