Mississippi River Music Armada begins in Grand Rapids

Canadian folk duo "Twin"

Canadian folk duo “Twin” will be touring the Mississippi River by canoe, performing concerts with local bands along the way.

With summer coming to its calendar-based conclusion (even if we have some good weather yet to come), I’ve heard about a really interesting concert series kicking off this week in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, just off the western Mesabi Iron Range.

David Fort of the Canadian folk duo Twin contacted me with news of the 3rd annual Mississippi River Music Armada, a concert tour involving canoes paddling down North America’s “Great River.” Twin will be touting its new album “North Americana” with the tour, which shoves off Wednesday at the Mississippi Melody steamboat stage in Grand Rapids. I don’t see a time on the press release, but previous years’ opening shows have started at 7 p.m.

TWIN’s 3rd annual Mississippi River Music Armada will start at the Mississippi Melody steamboat stage August 20th and ends at the Boats and Bluegrass festival while releasing there 2nd genre defining album “North Americana.” TWIN has just returned from the far north-lands of Canada completing the Sturgeon/Saskatchewan and Assinboine River Music Armada’s and will be adding the Milwaukee and Chicago River’s after the Mississippi on there way to do the Sacramento River for the 2nd year.

“Twin’s brand of Hypno-Folk never fails to fascinate telling tales of the Mississippi, Sacramento, Los Angeles and Assiniboine rivers, traveling via their favorite mode of transportation – the canoe” – Winona Daily News.

North Americana, TWIN’s follow up to Sharing Secrets With Strangers (2011) is an 11 song journey from the deep woods of the north to the inner city of Los Angeles and everything in between. Mooneyesun will have her brand new art designs on t-shirts, patches, underwear and baby clothing.

“Canadian hypno-folk act TWIN are changing music history with their River Armada Concert Series taking themselves, all their gear and instruments down the River by canoe; sharing song, stories and fun everywhere they go” – Nan Hargis, Oakland Tribune.
