With the holidays approaching, there is no shortage of schmaltzy Christmas-themed news packages on local TV airwaves. Still, sometimes they hit the spot, especially in this case.

Our friend Ray Rogers is from Hibbing but moved to Duluth a few years ago. He’s confined to a wheel chair because of cerebral palsy, but is bar none the most optimistic person we know. Come this season, Ray likes to volunteer to ring bells for the Salvation Army. This year, he set out with a goal — to break his personal records for hours volunteered and money raised.

Well, kill the suspense, he’s already done that. By a lot. But he’s putting in ten hours a day and raising thousands for the Salvation Army in Duluth all this month. Now he’s become legend. WDIO had the story last night.

You can watch the story here:

Way to go, Ray! I did a story on Ray’s wheelchair hockey team when he lived in Hibbing. He’s also an artist and all-around interesting guy. You’ll note that his laugh is infectious.
