Authentic Finnish music at the B’nai Abraham

This week, the B’nai Abraham Cultural Center and Museum will host a Finnish Music Festival Wednesday, July 22 at 7 p.m.

Kanteleen Soittajat, a group of 18 enthusiastic American-Finns from Duluth and surrounding area perform on the kantele, an ancient instrument that originated two thousand years ago and is now Finland’s national musical instrument. Since 2002 Kanteleen Soittajat has performed at over 100 events including four FinnFests, Salolampi, weddings, funerals, ethnic festivals, nursing homes and churches in four states and Canada.

The Javenpaa singers are a group from Duluth who sing in the Finnish language and who dedicate their music to uphold and promote the Finnish culture whenever they can. They have performed throughout the Midwest and Canada and several members of this group are also members of the Kanteleen Soittajat.

The B’nai Abraham Museum and Cultural Center is located at 328 5th Street South in Virginia, Minnesota. B’nai Abraham is the last remaining Jewish heritage site on the Iron Range, where a small but prominent Jewish community once lived during the boom times of the early 20th Century.
