After a turbulent month of local politics in Northern Minnesota’s Itasca County, veteran services officer Hugh Quinn has been reinstated by the county board.

Last week, the county board fired administrator Trish Harren, who had been a central figure in the reorganization of all county services stemming from a comprehensive planning process. The veterans services office was to be looped in with other services, which is something that didn’t sit well with some.

When Quinn resigned after months of disagreements with the county plans, area veterans and their supporters flooded commissioners and officials with calls. Rallies were organized, with Harren the target of much of the criticism. Quinn proved to be a popular, well-respected official among Itasca County veterans. County boards tend not to want to anger veterans groups.

Now Quinn is back on the job, reporting directly to the county board.
